Modern Living in Rhodes Medieval City

I have visited this beautiful house a few days ago during my regular monthly update on properties in Rhodes’ Medieval City. I must admit that it immediately struck me; definitely because of its unique location but also because of the way the owners of the house performed its renovation.
Location, Location, Location ! Probably the most famous phrase in real estate. Well, this phrase could be the key description for this house as its location could not be a better one. The house is located in Rhodes’ Medieval City proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Monument 20 years ago. The property is hidden in a secret alley only a few meters round the corner from the busy Clock Tower Square and Street – the Palace of the Knights, the Muslim Library and the Suleiman Mosque. Next door you can see the famous St George Bastion, a state of the art fortification work of its time. During the long siege of 1522 in the City, the bastion has been a key element in the defense of Rhodes against 80,000 Turkish troops !

Then it’s the house itself. The owners have approached and implemented the renovation plan in a new way that is different from other renovation works I have seen in Rhodes’ Old Town.

The colors of the house are earthy and light, the choice of materials are carefully balanced, the textures they used are original. All this blends in a perfect match and creates a welcoming and warm feel.
A feel of home.

One of the first things I have learned when visiting properties for sale was this: Do I want to stay a little bit longer? Is the house trying to keep me in or do I just want to leave as soon as possible? This is a great test which I highly recommend; it goes far beyond any property expert’s analysis; it’s the voice of your heart and it’s a sure bet!

One of the main challenges of renovation works in Rhodes Medieval City is the lack of space as in most medieval cities in the world. Space is limited and precious, both internally and externally
In this particular case with a total living space of 98 sqm, the property comprises a large open-plan living area segmented by original stone arches, a bespoke luxury kitchen with granite work surfaces, dining room, 3 bedrooms, 2 luxury bathrooms with rain forest showers, and wine cellar; the end result is perfect as every room has just the right size.

The fitted kitchen is generous, fully equipped with all-electric appliances, the air conditioning units are discrete, you can access wireless internet in every room.

Outside there is a split-level courtyard to the front with marble staircases, a large stone-built BBQ, a second private side courtyard with veranda and feature fireplace, and a large balcony from two of the first floor bedrooms.
A few steps and you reach the house’s highlight : a magnificent rooftop sun terrace enjoying far-reaching views, including those of the Clock Tower, St George Monastery, mosques and the imposing city walls.

Available by separate negotiation is a private plot of 56 sm to the front of the property with full planning permission to build a second residence.
For those who want to fulfill the dream of owning a beautiful house in one of the of the best – preserved medieval cities in Europe, this is just the right time !
