Thirty-four fire engines, 160 firefighters, 100 soldiers and 13 aircraft are deployed to contain the blaze in the south of the island, while new reinforcements has being rushed in from mainland Greece. The damages are still contained in the rural areas at an area of about 20 sq.km but as a precaution some hotels had to be evacuated, due to the smoke that has covered the area. As long as the weather insists with strong winds it will be difficult to contain the wildfires. In the meantime a 61 years old man from the village of Agios Isidoros was apprehended and charged for involuntary arson.
