Greece amongst the most favourite travel destinations
The long-haul Travel Barometer May-August published this week by the European Travel Commission (ETC), together with Eurail BV reports that travellers from the most significant markets are choosing Greece as their favourite holiday destination for this year.
The study reveals that Greece & the Greek islands are among the top 10 most preferred destinations in Europe for travellers from Brazil, Canada, Japan, the United States and Russia, moving up to the 4th spot.
Greece has often been applauded for the way it managed to keep its travel and tourism industry alive, even amid the devastating situation caused due to the Coronavirus and its new variants.
According to the figures provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO), since the start of the pandemic, authorities in Greece have registered a total of 3,436,046 cases of Coronavirus, while a total of 29,756 people have died during the same period.
Based on the figures provided by WHO, as of May 15, 2022, a total of 21,043,225 vaccine doses have been administered in the Hellenic Republic.
Recently, the figures provided by the Greek Aviation Service (CAA) revealed that air traffic in Greece so far this year is marking a significant increase, reaching a total of 99,164 flights. Such figures show that the situation fell behind pre-pandemic levels when there were no restrictions imposed, by 3,967 or 9.6 per cent.
Based on a press release published by CAA, the number of passengers registered in the first months of 2019 stood at a total of 10.3 million-22.5 per cent or 2.2 million fewer passengers compared to 2022 figures.
