WWF: Poor precautions to blame for Rhodes fire

“Rhodes paid the price this year for the insufficiency of the country’s fire protection system”. A report from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) blames the authorities for the fires that raged for days in July 2008 on the island of Rhodes, devastating woodlands that are home to wild fallow deer. However, a spokesman for the Greek fire brigade, said that it was the weather conditions that made difficult to contain the blaze despite the best efforts of the authorities.
